Sam Trickey describes the up-wind struggle and carnage of boats in the 1999 Mug Race (46th running) which was originally published in GAYC's newsletter in March 2005. In a recent GAYC meeting, we discussed challenging sails and same discussed this race (lots of members had memories of various Mug Races!). Sam had no time for pictures during this race, but attached is a picture of his boat from the 2002 Mug Race (49th). It had MUCH lighter air.
